Hi! I’m Caitlin Michaelis!

I’m so happy you’re here. Let me tell you a little about myself.

I attended the University of Minnesota Crookston - a part of the University of Minnesota school system - and received my Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education (K-6) while playing Division II college basketball. Shortly after graduating in 2020, I began my professional career in the field of education as a classroom teacher. In my four years of experience in the public school system, I’ve held positions as a 6th grade math teacher, a 5th grade reading and writing teacher, and a 4th grade teacher. After leaving the public school system, I have most recently worked as a middle and high school virtual teacher.

In these four and a half years of experience, I’ve gained an incredible amount of knowledge and insight. I’ve also learned a lot about myself as a person.

Shortly into my third year of teaching, I was feeling the intense effects of burnout, and was quickly losing passion for something I thought would be a lifelong career. Unfortunately, many of the things causing this burnout were completely out of my control, leaving me with two options: accept it or change something.

I then began to seriously and thoroughly reflect, both personally and professionally. Why is this happening? What is causing it? Is it me, the system, or a mixture? I began asking around, talking to 30-year veteran teachers, wondering what was going on, and was it always like this? The answers weren’t the answers I wanted, but the answers I needed. This was the first time I began to consider other career paths.

I realized that at the very core of my love for teaching is a love for helping others.

I began to notice that some of the things I loved most about teaching, and am truly skillful at, were things that I could do anywhere.

This includes my ability to be present and authentic, to be able to adapt quickly yet calmly, and be flexible. I realized that I’m organized, I’m resilient, and I can multitask. I am tedious and thorough. I work well under pressure. I can create something meaningful in a short amount of time and I love finding better, more efficient ways to do things.

Then, I came to the conclusion that I don’t have to live in a box. Just because I started as one thing, doesn’t mean I have to end as that thing.

This brings me to now, with the help, encouragement, and inspiration of many others, I can proudly present Caiter to You as my Virtual Assistant business that provides services such as administrative tasks, lifestyle support, and even personal tutoring.

As an educator at heart, I am committed to the needs of each individual. I understand how taxing it can be when the busy tasks of your day take away from the meaningfulness of your work, and ultimately cause you to forget why you started in the first place.

I want to take those tasks off your plate so you can focus on what matters most.

I’m so looking forward to getting to know you and working with you.

Talk soon, Caitlin
